Making rational sense of this with children, and teaching them concrete strategies to manage it, can be challenging to say the least! Martha’s simple “idea” is a straightforward and visual strategy, allowing her to manage her feelings of shyness and worry with confidence. It is also about having the courage to take a chance in a situation that may seem completely overwhelming, and the belief that one can find ways to manage and conquer one’s fears and trepidations.
